Raceline: Tip of the day, Monday 22nd October
Now that Frankel Fever has swept the nation, it’s back to the nitty-gritty of grassroots racing today.
Monday October 22
PEARL REWARD
Pontefract 3.50 WIN
It was almost certainly a weak maiden that Stuart Williams’s US-bred juvenile colt won a month ago, but it was still a jaw-dropping performance. He’d shown nothing when a 40/1 shot on his debut in May but was gambled into 11/4 favourite on this occasion before bolting up on a much softer surface. Once set alight entering the home straight, he rapidly sprinted a long way clear without too much help from Harry Bentley in the saddle. Today represents a case of same track, same trip, same ground and same jockey. Yes, the race also represents a step-up in class but, equally, it is a sub-standard renewal of Pontefract’s long-standing, Listed Silver Tankard contest, so it will be disappointing if the son of Medaglia D’Oro cannot go close.
SUNDAY: BRAMPOUR 2ND
SATURDAY: OPINION POLL UNPLACED
FRIDAY: DUTCH MASTERPIECE WON
THURSDAY: INFINITE HOPE 3RD (12/1, advised each/way)
WEDNESDAY: TAWHID WON
