Table tennis ace Pitchford bounces back to form in Montreux
Table-tennis ace Liam Pitchford, of Chesterfield, reached the quarter-finals of the Europe Top 16 event in Montreux, Switzerland.
Pitchford was badly in need of a pick-me-up after Great Britain’s failure to qualify for the team competition at the Tokyo Olympic Games later this year.
Seeded fifth, Pitchford was drawn against Lionel Weber, of Switzerland, in his opening contest and put in a confident show to triumph 4-0 (11-7, 11-8, 14-12, 11-7).
