RETRO: The taming of the high flying Shrews

Hide AdOur photograph shows Ernie Moss rising above the Shrews’ defence to meet a cross with a powerful header into the Cross Street net.
Rodney Fern would later add a goal from the penalty spot, while David Tong got one for the visitors that always kept them within sight of a point.
The high-flying Shrews, who had conceded only 17 goals from 28 games before this match, were prevented from taking top spot in the table by Chesterfield’s win.
The Spireites were able to climb a few places to 13th.
Despite this setback the Salopians finished as the division’s champions that year, while Chesterfield fell away badly to finish just one place outside the relegation zone.
