Debutant Tom Batterham proved to be a nuisance all afternoon and nearly got his first goal for the Lions when he pounced on a defensive mistake but saw his shot saved at the near post.
Vickers could have all but sealed the game shortly before half-time after being found by Kyle Daley with an open goal, but the ball bounced up on him before he could control it and it sailed wide.
In a rare foray forward for the visitors they almost pulled a goal back midway through the second half. Billy Snaith forced a fine save out of Askew and Ollie Worthington fired the rebound over with the goal gaping.
