Champions Selston want to ice the cake in cup final
Just a week after they sealed back-to-back Central Midlands League South Division titles, Selston will take on Hucknall Town in the CMFL Challenge Cup final.
For Weston, a win would be the perfect end to an already ‘heroic’ season.

Hide AdSaturday’s 1-0 win over Pinxton meant Selston pipped Eastwood Community to the league title by a single point.
The manager said it was just reward for his players.
“Amazing, amazing, it was very nervy but everything went to plan,” he said.
“We got what we set out to get and I’m really pleased with the whole day and the result as well.
“They’ve been outstanding, not just this season, they were last season as well.

With plenty of work going on off the field to pass a ground grading and give the club every chance of earning promotion, Weston feels the title was fitting for everyone involved.
Earlier in the season his players mucked in with some of the work to improve the Parish Hall ground on a fixture-less Saturday.
“It’s not just about what the players have done on the field, the help they’ve given to the volunteers as well has been great,” he said.

“There’s been a lot of hard work and days like Saturday make it all worthwhile.”
The club now face a wait to discover if they’ll be approved for promotion.
“We won’t want to get our hopes up too high,” said Weston.
But in the meantime, there’s one last job to do.
“We’ve got a cup final to look forward to,” said Weston.
“That would be a bit of icing on the cake.
“It would be lovely to do the double, really good progress made by the club.”

“I don’t want to say anyone performed badly, but with the importance of the game last weekend, I knew it was going to be nervy, Pinxton came and made it hard for us and we didn’t take our chances which made it more nervy,” he said.
“Coming to this weekend for the final, it’s a different surface, a different opposition and it’s not set in stone by any means.
“We’ve got good competition in the squad and I might tweak one or two things.”
