Hide AdProtests over the axing and replacement of highway trees as part of the council’s Streets Ahead contract with Amey have become a regular fixture in Sheffield in recent years.
In response to the protest, Coun Julie Dore, leader of the council, said: “This is a programme of protection, not destruction, and represents the largest investment there has ever been in the city’s street trees.”
Another petition, focusing on the city as a whole, has now been signed by more than 15,000 people.
