Post Offices hit by currency scam
Officers are appealing for information after a man entered the Post Office on Alfreton Road and asked the cashier to exchange Pound Sterling for Euros.
Two men entered the branch on Thursday, May 21 and using confusion tactics in a con the police called “ringing the changes”, managed to leave with an amount of Euros they hadn’t paid for.

Hide AdDerbyshire Constabulary explained: “When the cashier handed him the currency he asked for it to be changed into £10 notes. and when told they did not have enough £10 notes, he said he would have Euros as he was sending it to Spain.
“When he was joined by another man he then asked make a transfer to the Western Union in single denominations. The cashier refused and the men left the shop making off with the extra Euros.”
On the same day at 10.15am a man entered the Post Office on Market Place and asked the cashier to change Euros to Sterling. As the cashier was counting out the money the offender said that he doesn’t want cash as he needs to send the money to Spain.
“As the cashier turned to get a form for him to complete the offender takes the money from the counter and left the shop,” added a police Spokesperson.

Hide AdThe two men are described as white, aged mid-30s and one had a moustache and wore jeans and a white polo shirt; the other had a beard and wore a blue t-shirt with a NYC logo on, shorts and a panama style hat
Anyone with information is asked to contact PC Michael Dubajic at Ripley police station on 101 quoting crime numbers 21286/15 and 21258/15.
