Future Properties and Kimberley Caravan Centre are seeking permission to transform the former Multiplex Engineering site on Holbeck Close, off Brimington Road, into a caravan and motorhome retail centre with associated offices.
The 1.6 hectare site once housed specialist marine valves and equipment, but has lain empty since January this year.

Drawings submitted as part of the application show a large sales building, adjoined by offices and a workshop for the vehicles.
Agents DLP Planning, on behalf of the applicant, said: “This application proposes a change of use of the site from the sui generis use of industrial workshops, vehicle storage and ancillary offices/training rooms, to the display and sale of Caravans and Motorhomes with associated offices and staff facilities.
"The vehicles will be displayed both within the main building on the site (the northern building) and on the forecourt surrounding the building. Initially, this is to include approximately 50 touring caravans and 20-30 motor homes (new and pre-used), with the client envisaging that this will build up to full site use of approximately 150 caravan and motorhomes.

Planning documents show that the site would largely be sales storage space, where the caravans and motorhomes would be kept for viewing, along with staff and customer parking.
If approved, it would operate 8am to 6pm on weekdays, 9am to 6pm on Saturdays and 10am to 4pm on Sundays.
Situated close to the new Waterside development, developers say there would be “no adverse impacts on neighbouring occupiers.”

"The development will retain its purpose as an employment generating use, in line with the council's policy objectives for the site.
"It will bring environmental enhancements and provides recreational vehicles for people to take holidays."
