Chesterfield residents thanked for helping Afghan refugees

Earlier this month, the Derbyshire Times reported that Chesterfield Stand Up To Racism was collecting donations of various items to help Afghan refugees arriving in the UK.
Jeannie Robinson, of the group, said this week: “Thank you to all readers for donating so generously to our call for aid to the Afghans.

Hide Ad“We delivered five car loads full to Derby at the end of last week and already our storage is full again.
“Eighty Afghans are being housed temporarily in Derby.
“Derbyshire Refugee Solidarity there are doing a great job supporting them.
“We are halting donations for now but as the refugees get more permanent homes we will reopen.”
The UK has so far pledged to take 5,000 Afghan refugees this year and 20,000 over five years – after the Taliban took control of Afghanistan.
