Matlock car crash victim’s wife thanks town
David ‘Mac’ Mckenzie, who owns Mckenzie’s Garage, in Smedley Street, Matlock, was working under a car on Friday at around 11.15am when it fell on him, trapping him underneath.
Firefighters from Matlock lifted the car off him and he was taken by air ambulance to Nottingham Queen’s Medical Centre.

Hide AdHis wife Liz was at a music festival in France when she heard about the accident.
“I managed to get home from France in five hours and I was by his side,” she said.
Liz, said she was still in shock following the incident, but said there was no one to blame.
She added Mac had broken several bones, but was in a stable condition. Mac has undergone several operations and doctors hoped to move him from the high dependency ward to the trauma unit of the hospital.

Hide AdLiz said it was business as usual at the garage, adding: “We have got the business under control.”
“I want to say ‘thank you’ to everyone for their support, it’s been absolutely fantastic and wonderful to know people like him so much,” she added.
“The lads in the garage were fantastic, they leapt into action. We couldn’t praise them enough.”
She also praised the air ambulance crew, who were on the scene within just seven minutes.
