Helping paw to rescue Calver pooch
Police were called around 12.20pm on Friday, June 17, to reports that a dog named Betsy had fallen down an embankment next to the river.
PC Simon Wolverson and PCSO Anthony Boswell from the area’s Safer Neighbourhood team attended the incident close to Calver Bridge, Calver, alongside Station Manager Gary Platts from Chesterfield Fire Station.

Hide AdPC Wolverson and Station Manager Platts climbed down the embankment with the use of ropes to rescue the dog, Betsy, from the ledge above the river, before passing her safely up the river’s edge to her owner.
A Derbyshire police spokesman said: “Betsy was reunited with her relieved owner and was later taken to the vets to be checked over.”
