Health bosses encourage young carers to speak out
GPs and health professionals are appealing particularly to young people to make themselves known if they care for a relative but haven’t told anyone officially, as part of the national week which runs from June 9 to 14.
A young carer is someone aged 18 or under who helps look after a relative who has a condition such as a disability, illness or mental health condition, or a drug or alcohol problem.

Hide AdDr Ben Milton, chair of NHS North Derbyshire Clinical Commissioning Group, said: “Caring for a relative without recognition can be emotionally and physically challenging. It’s vital that GPs are aware young people are caring for someone so they can put in place the necessary support to help them.
