The men tried to load items into the car, but needed more space and made the victim drive a short distance in his own vehicle to Princess Street, off Newbold Road.
One of the offenders is thought to have left the Sheffield Road car park in the silver car.
Once at Princess Street, the remaining items were loaded into a taxi by the other two offenders, which set off just after 8.30pm and took them to Loughborough.
