Paul Mee, 35, had drunk two bottles of wine as well as some lager when he attacked his partner as they sat drinking together on October 1, last year.
In an escalation of aggressive behaviour during the couple’s one-year relationship, Mee refused to let her leave as he became more drunk.

Hide AdBecky Allsop, prosecuting, described how as Mee’s scared victim approached the door to his Heanor home he grabbed her by the neck and her hair - throwing her to the ground.
As she phoned police, Mee shouted “I’ll f****** kill you” while punching the windows next to her.
When police arrived at the home, Mee claimed the woman was not at the property - until they saw her “crying and distressed”.
Ms Allsop said: “It lasted about an hour from the point of first refusing to let her go until police arrived.”

Hide AdThe prosecutor told magistrates Mee had 20 previous convictions including actual bodily assault, common assault and dishonesty offences.
Mee, of, Bridge Street, Langley Mill, admitted assault by beating.
Magistrates told him: “You have a bad record - no convictions in a domestic violence context - but you have a number of previous convictions.
“You need to get a grip of yourself.”
He was given a 12-month community order with a 16-day rehabilitation activity requirement and a 12-week curfew with electronic tag from 7pm-7am.
