BAKEWELL: Custard pie ‘danger’ is world gone mad!
Mayor Paul Morgans had hoped that the pie fight would be a fitting climax for the Bakewell Baking Festival, as well as a tribute to Jane Austen penning part of Pride and Prejudice in Bakewell’s Rutland Arms Hotel.
However, when Paul approached the council they said he would need insurance for the Mr Darcy Pie Fight.

“But really – how can a paper plate and some custard foam be more dangerous than horse riding or rugby or even crossing the road? It’s a classic case of world gone mad.
“These insurance companies are really damaging our country and taking all the pleasure out of being alive. I’m surprised there isn’t rioting in the streets. It’s ridiculous.”
Despite the hold-up, Paul remains hopeful that an insurer will come forward to cover the event on June 9.
