A derelict pub is to be transformed into apartments following approval by planning chiefs.

An application to turn the Devonshire Hotel, in Occupation Road, Newbold, into four one-bedroomed apartments was granted permission by Chesterfield Borough Council’s Planning Committee on Monday (December 12).

The pub, which has been vacant for a number of years, was previously earmarked to become a shop after being granted a change of use last year, however these plans never came into being.

Approving the most recent application, Councillor Mick Brady commented: “You’re always looking for uplift in an area that’s seen better days.”

A shared courtyard will provide shared amenity space for the residents, there will also be a cycle store, clothes drying area and parking.
