Non-essential retail, pub beer gardens, hair salons and gyms all reopened yesterday, April 12, as the next phase in the Government’s roadmap out of lockdown got underway.
It saw people flock in their droves to Chesterfield town centre, with a lengthy queue forming outside Primark by mid-morning while others waited for their first post-lockdown hair cut at salons such as The Easy Barber.

A spokesperson for Chesterfield Borough Council said: "There was a positive atmosphere across the town and it was fantastic to see people taking the opportunity to support local businesses, traders and hospitality venues, while observing social distancing and other restrictions which are still in place.
“It’s never been more important for us each to support our town centre wherever we can, and that’s the message behind our ‘We’re Back’ campaign – a joint initiative with Destination Chesterfield which aims to showcase and support the great range of retail and hospitality in the borough.
"We’ll shortly be launching a new ‘Love Chesterfield’ campaign too, that will celebrate everything great about our town centre and high streets as we look forward to a further easing of lockdown restrictions.
