Derbyshire Times launches campaign to raise vital cancer care funds
Work is well under way to build the new NGS Macmillan Unit at Chesterfield Royal Hospital, which aims to transform the treatment of Derbyshire people diagnosed with the condition.
The drive to raise the funds needed to complete the scheme has just reached the £2m mark - thanks to the generosity of residents and businesses across the county.

Editor Phil Bramley said: “I know all too well how cancer affects so many local lives; it’s only a few years ago that my dad was diagnosed with and sadly died from it.
“The new centre will help transform the lives of patients and their families and I’m asking all our readers to get behind this fundraising push.”
It’s easy to get involved, you can text DTRA50 + £amount to 70550 and give what you can to the cause. For example, to give £5 just text DTRA50 £5

Phil added: “It doesn’t matter if you give just a little or you can give a lot, but please help us support this really worthwhile cause that will make such a difference to so many lives.”
We challenge our fantastic readers to get involved anyway they can and help us raise at least £5,000 towards the final target.
The new centre means people will be able to receive vital treatment, care and support in one purpose-built centre providing joined up services closer to home.

The new centre will enable the specialist teams to provide all out-patient chemotherapy and clinical haematology in one place.
It will provide vital support for local people facing the toughest fight of their lives, including:
Treatment and care and support in one location
21 chemotherapy treatment chairs, two treatment beds and three treatment rooms with couches
Specialist advice
Complementary therapies, welfare benefits advice, practical support and dietary advice
Access to self help and support groups
Signposting to the voluntary and community sector for support.
