Hide AdDuring the opening into Mr Elliott’s inquest, York’s acting senior coroner Jonathan Leach said the student had been out with friends on the Tuesday night.
At about 3pm on Wednesday, a flatmate became concerned and a member of security attended and forced entry into his room.
Mr Leach said a post-mortem examination had been conducted and its preliminary conclusion was that the cause of death was hanging.
He added that Mr Elliott had no ‘medical history of note’.
The inquest was adjourned to a later date.
