Hide AdAge–related macular degeneration affects the central vision and is the most common cause of sight loss in the UK. More people are affected as our population ages.
She said: “I was surprised and delighted to hear of my nomination. It is something which I find humbling and gratifying, but it is great to know that the work I am doing is appreciated.
“I am passionate about enabling people with failing sight to maintain their independence and feel privileged to have the skills and resources at my disposal to help those suffering with macular degeneration to do this.
“However, I do not do this alone. It is a team effort; community optometrists are assisted by a local charity and local hospital eye services to provide counselling and practical help for those who suffer sight loss, increasing their independence and quality of life.”
