Buxton Adventure Festival aims to reach new heights
Brought to you for the first time last year by the organisers of the Sheffield Adventure Film Festival, the event received rave reviews for its magical combination of live lectures and the thrill of big screen cinema.
Over the course of an adventure-packed two days on Saturday November 2 and Sunday November 3, ten inspirational speakers will appear at the Pavilion Arts Centre, accompanied by a selection of the world’s best adventure sports films.

Hide AdSpeakers this year include Juliana Buhring, the fastest woman to circumnavigate the world by bicycle; Team GB mountain biker Annie Last; ultra-runner, climber and cyclist Heather Dawe; ultra-runner Jez Bragg, and global adventurers Rosie Swale-Pope and Jason Lewis.
Lissa Cook, from the festival, said: “Between them, our intrepid line-up have pedalled, paddled, climbed, hiked, run, skied and even dog-sledding all over the world.”
Plans for this year include a ‘Young Adventurers’ launch night at the Oaklands Outdoor Leadership Centre, an outdoors photography exhibition in co-ordination with the Pavilion Gardens and MyOutdoors magazine, and use of the adjacent Studio Theatre for ‘Adventure Bites’ - a rolling loop of short, family-friendly, action-packed films.
There will also be a junior aquathlon, orienteering and other activities with Derbyshire Village Games, the YHA and High Peak Triathlon Club using the pool and park, and an alpine workshop.
